TotalEnergies to ramp up battery storage capacity in Belgium
TotalEnergies is to develop a second refinery battery storage site in Belgium to encourage the growth of renewable energies in the country and add resilience to the grid.
On the occasion of Belgian Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten's visit to TotalEnergies' Antwerp refinery battery storage project, the company announced the development of a second similar project in Belgium. The new project will be located at TotalEnergies' depot in Feluy, featuring a power rating of 25 MW and a capacity of 75 MWh.
The new project will be developed on the site of TotalEnergies' depot in Feluy and will have a power rating of 25MW and capacity of 75MWh. Start-up is expected by the close of 2025. TotalEnergies says its two battery storage projects represent a global investment of nearly €70 million and will bring its storage capacity in Belgium to 50MW/150MWh.
TotalEnergies is also active in electric mobility, with over 10,000 charging points in operation across Belgium. These charging points are distributed as follows: 35% on roads, 20% at private homes, and 45% in offices. The company operates recharging points in major cities such as Antwerp, Brussels, and Ghent.
