The 400MWh BESS becomes the latest project to have been fast-tracked via the Development Facilitation Program. Image: GPG. The Victoria government has fast-tracked a 400MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) being developed by Green Power Generation (GPG) Australia.
The increase in energy consumption, driven by rapid electrification, data consumption and AI, coupled with Australia's supportive regulatory policies and record low renewable energy capital expenditures (capex) costs, have fuelled a competitive environment for quality BESS projects.
The BESS also includes other infrastructure including a relay room or switch room for on-site monitoring of the facility; a storeroom for spare parts; and kiosks for switch gear. The facility is connected to Victoria's electricity grid via the adjacent energy delivery services business AusNet operated Cranbourne Terminal Station.
Australia's BESS regulations are both complex and continuously evolving. Navigating this landscape requires deep understanding of market trends, government funding initiatives and compliance requirements. 8 Upstream Mid/Downstream Services Mineral Extraction Increasing downstream risk & uncertainty
