Madagascar mobile off grid solar system
How will Welight''s new solar mini-grids benefit Madagascar? The investment will enable WeLight to build and develop solar mini-grids to supply electricity to over 120 villages in Madagascar
Recognizing that large parts of the country may remain beyond the reach of the national grid, the gov-ernment of Madagascar is embracing the potential of- fered by off-grid solar technologies. Thus, the strat-egy targets, among other things, the deployment of mini-grids and the extension of off-grid solar energy.
The Malagasy government is pursuing its ambition to put in place a legislative environment favorable to the expansion of the off-grid solar market through the 2015 Law on Public-Private Partnerships14 (PPP) which establishes an applicable regulatory frame-work to mini-grids.
Owing to the large population size and limited access to the grid, Madagascar has a large addressable mar-ket for solar solutions with a potential customer base of 2.5 to 5 million households for solar lamps and market-entry solar home systems.
The project will develop decentralized and digital elec-tricity infrastructure based on renewable energies in the north of Madagascar. The installation of nano-grids supplied with energy by solar panels will allow nearly 40,000 users to have access to electricity.
