Electric Thermal Energy Storage (ETES) System, Hamburg
The 130MWh Electric Thermal Energy Storage (ETES) demonstration project, commissioned in Hamburg-Altenwerder, Germany, in June 2019, is the precursor of future
Mobile energy storage provides a clean alternative to diesel generators for locations with no grid connection or only a weak one. Grid congestion creates increasingly long waiting times for companies who want to increase their grid connection. Mobile energy storage is the temporary solution to keep your business running.
Alfen's mobile energy storage products are sustainably produced, fully recyclable, and ensure zero emissions on-site. Mobile energy storage provides a reliable power solution that is easy to operate and robust enough to withstand harsh conditions. Perfect for temporary energy needs.
Energy storage is needed for a successful transition towards sustainable energy. However, existing solutions still have shortcomings: they operate with lethal battery voltages, are sensitive to failure, and exhibit large efficiency losses, burning money, energy, and emissions.
The Hamburg ETES demonstration facility is designed to draw surplus electricity from the grid, store it in the form of thermal energy, and utilise the same to produce electricity, when it is most needed. The facility is capable of powering 1,500 German households a day.
