Zagreb Airport
Zagreb Airport (IATA: ZAG, ICAO: LDZA), also known as Pleso Airport after the nearby suburb of Pleso, is the main international airport of Croatia and also a Croatian Air Force and Defense
An 1890 act of the Royal Hungarian Government authorised the building of the main station and maintenance shop in Zagreb. Construction of the 186.5 m (612 ft) long station building began in 1891 and was overseen by Hungarian architect Ferenc Pfaff. Sculptural works were undertaken by the Hungarian sculptor Vilim Marschenko.
Located 10 km from the central railway station in Zagreb, it served 2,062,242 passengers in 2009 and is the primary hub for Croatian flag carrier Croatia Airlines. Expansion of the airport is due to start in 2010. The first airfield in Zagreb was built in 1909 near the western city neighbourhood of Črnomerec.
CRS identified 31 persistent bases and 19 other military sites to which DOD has access in the region. As of March 2024, approximately 67,200 active-duty servicemembers were permanently assigned to overseas bases in Europe, with the largest contingents assigned to locations in Germany (35,068), Italy (12,375) and the United Kingdom (10,058).
The construction of a brand new 70,000 m 2 (750,000 sq ft) terminal facility designed by Neidhardt architects of Zagreb and carried out by Bouygues Bâtiment International in partnership with Viadukt began on 18 December 2013 with the aim to replace the old terminal.
